I juli 2012 skulle Davey försöka sig på att ensam resa från källan av Amazonfloden till dess mynning i Atlanten.
Äventyret bestod av tre steg, en vandring till toppen av Mount Mismi, 5 597 meter över havet, följt av 800 kilometer på cykel genom de Anderna i Peru för att slutligen paddla 5 700 kilometer mot Atlanten.
Två månader in i sin resa blir Davey överfallen och hans episka resa kommer till ett brutalt slut.
Han blir skjuten fyra gånger med hagelgevär och lämnas att dö. Totalt har Davey 22 blyhagel i sin kropp.
"Han blev beskjuten i sin kajak. Han föll ut. Kunde inte röra armen. De sköt honom igen när han simmade undan. Han har hagel i ryggen, ansiktet, halsen och armarna.
Davey stannade i vattnet och tänkte att hans sista stund var inne, men instinktivt fortsatte han att fly. Han fick ta sig fem kilometer för att få hjälp, och var tvungen att släpa sig fram på ett ben och utan känsel i armarna.
På andra sidan floden fanns det människor som han försökte få hjälp av, men han fick inte fram något ljud eftersom han blivit skjuten i nacken! Till slut såg de honom men krävde pengar för att ge honom hjälp. Han fick till slut lite hjälp, men lämnades i en båt i fyra timmar för att han saknade pengar. Till slut hostade han upp så mycket blod att de blev rädda och ändå hjälpte honom.
De svepte in honom i plast och filtar och sedan sjönk Davey in i ett barmhärtigt mörker."
Trots att han inte kunde genomföra sitt projekt finns Davey kvar i livet och kan berätta en fantastisk historia om mental styrka, överlevnad och medkänsla.

In July 2012, Davey attempted a solo source to sea journey of the Amazon River. The adventure encouraged a take action approach towards environmental issues, entitling the cause as an 'Empowerment for the Environment'. Davey also teamed up with Adventurers and Scientists for Conservation by collecting environmental data whilst on route.
The adventure consisted of a three stage crossing of the South American continent from east to west, consisting of a hike to the summit of the 18000ft Mount Mismi. Notes as the true source of the Amazon River, followed by an estimated 800km cycle through the Peruvian Andes Mountains, and a final 5700km paddle towards the Atlantic Ocean.
Two months into the journey, Davey was ambushed, shot and left for dead, putting an end to this epic adventure. Despite not complete the project, Davey was left with a remarkable story of survival and compassion.
“He was shot at in his kayak. He fell out. Could not move his arm. They shot at him again he swam to get away. He has bullets in his spine, face, neck skull arms. Davey then stayed in the water thinking its over, but an instinct made him run, he ran for about 5 km to get help, he had to drag his leg and his arms had lost all feeling ,he found people on the other side of the river, he tried to call for help, but no sound came out cos he had been shot in the neck. They eventually saw him and wanted money to help him, he got some help, but further along he was left in a boat for 4 hours cos he had no money, eventually after coughing up blood , which would not stop, they got scared and helped him, they wrapped him in plastic and blankets and not sure what happened from there."
