What are the Kurdish words for peace, language and respect? This Turkish-Kurdish dictionary (Türkce-Kürtce Sözlük/Ferhenga Tirki-Kurdi, kurmanci) is comprehensive and unique, containing some 23,000 headwords in addition to explanations of many phrases and grammatical constructions. It has been compiled over 20 years by Mehmet Tanrikulu, who is resident in Germany, where he teaches Kurdish and Turkish in many schools. Arne Ruth, a Swedish journalist and writer: "A right to one's own language is one of the fundamental human rights. To be deprived of it entails being deprived of one's cultural identity, and one's historical and literary context. Osman Özkanat, Chairman of the National Turkish Association in Sweden: "One's mother tongue is the most important factor in forming one's personal cultural identity, because each of us is a product of his or her cultural environment. This dictionary will be of great help to both Turks and Kurds. Keya Izol, Chairman of the National Kurdish Association in Sweden: "The denial by the Turkish regime of the national and linguistic existence of the Kurdish people is one of more serious ill-treatments known to history of a people comprising more than thirty million individuals.
